See Ya Sweats! Hello 2021 Denim Trends

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I miss jeans. Anyone else? The classic staple found itself in the back of closet during 2020. Sweats, leggings and matching sets were fun for a while, but I am ready to be back in jeans. Are they uncomfortable sometimes? Yes. However, there is nothing like a good pair of jeans that fits in all the right places.

The exciting thing about denim, is that it is constantly is evolving. We are far past the days of strictly resorting to skinny jeans. With so many new denim trends on the horizon for spring, I am looking forward to letting my tie dye sweats venture to the back of the closet, at least for now. Believe me, it is about time you stop buying sweats!

70’s Flare Jeans

Don’t knock this trend before you try it-70’s flare jeans are the best thing to come back since tie dye sweats, seriously. Trends evolve from past decades-designers are always looking to the past for inspiration. (Who says being stuck in the past is a bad thing?) Flare jeans are perfect as they hug in all the right places but give you the breathing room, skinny jeans do not, on the lower part of your leg. This trend is perfect for those of you who hate dressing up. A flare jean makes you look 10 times more dressy than a boot cut or skinny jean. Another positive, flare jeans look perfect with boots, sandals and sneakers making them last through all of the seasons, not just spring.

80’s Pleated Denim

Okay, I get it. Sweatpants are way more comfortable and being that a majority of us are spending a lot more time at home for the foreseeable future, what’s the point in investing in denim? Hear me out, pleated denim. They fit like sweatpants. The pleated bottom gives that jogger look we have all grown so comfortable in. These is no excuse to opt for sweats when pleated denim is a thing. Majority of jeans are made from 100% cotton too so there is essentially no difference between jeans and sweats now.

90’s Boot Cut Denim

So we may or may not be hitting all of the decades here, but like I said there is inspiration in the past. Don’t run from that. Skinny jeans did get old really quick but for those of you who can’t seem to let all of your skinny jeans go, 90’s boot cut denim might be your next step. They fit exactly like a skinny jean for the most part expect the pant opening leaves enough room for a boot to fit under the jean rather than over. Your knees and ankles especially will thank you for jumping on this trend. Plus, everything was way better in the 90’s- including the fashion. Although it is a simple trend, it should not be overlooked. This spring, expect to see a bit of an upgrade to typical bootcut denim as the styles will be a bit more cropped leaving plenty of space for the perfect bootie to have its moment in the spotlight.

Sustainable Denim

A trend that should have been a thing sooner is now finally here just in time for the beautiful spring season- sustainable denim. It is so important that we take care of our environment for the generations to come. With fashion trends ever changing, it is so important to invest in sustainable pieces. This year, I am personally looking forward to seeing the entire industry become more sustainable but especially with denim.

Baggy Denim

When we were all thriving on the skinny jean trend, did you ever once thing there would be a day where we could call baggy denim a fashion trend? I sure would have never thought such a thing. But here we are, the year of 2021, manifesting our best most fashionable lives in our baggy denim. The truth of the matter is that if they are styled correctly, not with a sweatshirt, they actually look fabulous. Your sweatpants are probably shaking at the thought of this trend but it’s time. Goodbye sweats, hello baggy jeans.
