I Was On A Waitlist For This: Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara Review
It has been a really long time since I put myself on a waitlist for a mascara, like really long. I’ve also never put myself on a waitlist for a drugstore mascara before, but here we are in 2021, an ever-changing world. The new Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara has been all over my TikTok feed, so I obviously had to try. Following the launch a few weeks ago, the mascara was sold out everywhere. I was on a waitlist with Ulta for an entire week, until last Thursday, when I finally received a notification that the mascara was back in stock and ready to purchase.
It arrived yesterday. I tried it this morning and it is absolutely Manifesting Manolos approved. 100% I have naturally long lashes, however, they lack volume and curl. Although, the purpose of this mascara is to increase length, it definitely adds volume and curl. Let’s get into the review:
The Packaging:
The packaging is super sleek, It is light weight and won’t take up too much space in a makeup bag which is ideal.
The Brush:
The brush is straight without any curves, but it is super flexible. I typically like a brush with a curl or bend to it, however, the flexibility of the straight brush allows for reaching the lashes on the inner and outer corners of the eyes. The brush has tiny teeth which perfectly comb through and separate each lash. This not only lengthens but lifts the lashes as well. It is truly one of the most magical applicators, I have ever used.
The Application:
MM Pro Tip- As tempting as it is, do not quickly pump your mascara in and out of the tube before applying. The fast pumping motion we are all guilty of actually pushes air into the tube causing the mascara to dry out faster. For the application, I start by wiping any excess mascara off the brush on the side of the tube. I then started from the root and wiggled the brush a bit back and fourth while pushing through the lash. I then utilized the flexibility of the brush and reached the corner lashed with the tip. The name is very literal as after only one coat, my lashes extended in length significantly. They were SKY HIGH. Almost to the eyebrow, seriously. The formula is super light which is fabulous for layering. I was able to put on three coats without my lashes looking clumpy.
The Wear:
I have a terrible habit of picking at my lashes throughout the day. I do it when I’m bored, when I’m nervous and at other random points during the day. Typically, mascara will flake off on my face during the day when that happens. This however was not the case. The mascara wears so well even with my constant picking. My lashes stayed long, full and volumized throughout the entire day.
The Removal:
The mascara comes up super easily with just a little bit of facial cleanser and water. It does not leave any trace of mascara behind.
The Comparison:
This is easily a dupe for the beloved Glossier Mascara. Very similar in wear, removable and application.
This is definitely my new favorite mascara. The waitlist was very much worth it as it lived up to the TikTok hype. BRB while I go order a few more from Ulta and stock up. Get your hands on this asap.
